Soul Fly Club is a community-based arts and cultural organization rooted in Germantown, Philadelphia. Our mission is to create accessible, intergenerational spaces where Black artists, neighbors, and cultural workers can gather to experiment, learn, and build community through visual art, sound, storytelling, and collective study.

Philadelphia has a large and active arts ecosystem, with thousands of working artists and one of the largest Black populations of any major U.S. city. In neighborhoods like Germantown, there is a growing demand for hyper-local, grassroots cultural spaces that are affordable, participatory, and community-led. The opportunity lies in bridging this gap—creating neighborhood-based cultural infrastructure that supports both artists and residents outside of traditional institutional frameworks.

We address the gap by:

  • Paying local artists to lead workshops and programs

  • Providing free and low-cost access to creative experiences

  • Building a shared lending library of books, vinyl, and cultural materials

  • Activating a physical studio space as a neighborhood cultural hub

  • Creating recurring programs that build long-term relationships and skills

Funding will be used to:

  • Pay local artists and facilitators for their labor and expertise

  • Purchase materials for collage, workshops, and community art-making

  • Build out our lending library (books, vinyl, CDs, and cataloging supplies)

  • Improve studio functionality (tables, seating, shelving, and equipment)

  • Support outreach so programs remain accessible to Germantown residents

  • Provide light refreshments to ensure gatherings are welcoming and inclusive

This support will directly increase the number of community members we can serve and the quality of programming we can offer.
